Baby Safety
It is very important to start thinking about child safety before your child starts to crawl. Try to get down on their level and see what there is to touch, feel and taste. You can call a safety consultant for a home evaluation. This service is free of charge and then you can either do the work yourself or hire them for part or all of it. Safety consultants can be found in the yellow pages under Home safety or safety consultant, or by asking your local baby store for a recommendation. There are several safety books available.

Online SIDS Sites:
The American SIDS institute defines SIDS as the sudden and unexpected death of an apparently healthy infant, whose death remains unexplained after the performance of an adequate postmortem investigation including 1) an autopsy, 2) investigation of the scene and circumstances of the death, and 3) exploration of the medical history of the infant and family. SIDS is a classification that is used to describe a deceased infant. It is not a disease, nor can it be a diagnosis for a living baby.
SIDS Alliance strives to achieve increased public participation and support in the fight against SIDS. The SIDS Alliance is engaged in ongoing efforts to expand its scientific program, strengthen services for families, and provide public education and advocacy opportunities. An important goal is to improve community understanding and elevate Sudden Infant Death Syndrome to the level of societal concern appropriate to one of our nation's major causes of infant mortality.
The American SIDS
Institute is dedicated to the prevention of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome
and the promotion of infant health through research, clinical
services, family support and professional and community education.
